  • What is Autism?

Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder refers to a variety of conditions identified by challenges with communication, repetitive behaviors, and social skills. Autism presents differently in each case and everyone has their own strengths and challenges. Early signals of Autism typically appear around ages 2 or 3, though they can be identified even earlier. Signs may vary between girls and boys. We always advise communicating with your pediatrician if you have any concerns.

  • What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)?

  • What Should I Expect Once I Contact Compassionate Behaviors?

Once you text, call,  or email Compassionate Behaviors, you can expect a call back within two business days. During that first phone call, we will ask for information about your child, their diagnosis, insurance (if applicable), availability for services, and goals for your child and your family. Following that phone call, we will contact your insurance company for preauthorization to evaluate your child. We will then reach out to you to schedule the evaluation and determine goals for your child. Once that evaluation is completed, we will create an individualized plan for your child and submit it to your insurance company for authorization. If you have any questions or concerns throughout the process, you can call or text us, and we will return your call to answer any questions or work through any problems.

  • What Assessments Are Used in ABA?

In ABA, various assessments may be used to develop an understanding of your child’s needs, including, but not limited to, the VB-MAPP (Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program) and various functional behavior assessments. These tools help create a targeted behavior intervention plan.

  • What Should I Expect on the First Day of Therapy and Consultation?

Depending on your child’s goals and plan, staff will enter your home and ask you about any updates or concerns that you may have regarding your child. You should have a dedicated space in your home for your child and clinician to work with toys and activities your child likes to engage with. Please turn the TV or tablets off. You can and should get involved in the session! ABA principles are at work all the time; the more you are involved, the more you can use these principles throughout your daily lives and consistently with your child.
